“Laval was once a large island covered with majestic trees, which the natives used as a place of passage. The seigneury, called Île Jésus, was erected and granted to the Jesuits in 1636. Bishop François Montmorency de Laval, the first bishop of Quebec, acquired it in 1672 in exchange for Île d’Orléans.
